Amalgamation Theatre Collective believes the work of theatre artists should be infused with whimsy, joy, and wonder akin to children playing. We strive to redefine the life of creatives as an opportunity for joy and engagement.

Amalgamation builds new opportunities and artistic spaces for artists that are accessible, equitable, experimental, and safe. We believe that any artist looking to share their work deserves the chance to do it, and any audience member looking for a community to engage in should be welcome in it. 

There will always be a want and a need for more spaces to create. When there wasn’t a place for us, we made it. Every artist deserves to take space, so we will continue to make it – spaces to experiment, take risks, and make theatre in places you may not expect. Everyone fits into the Amalgamation.

As a company, we prioritize the following values in the work that we do:

Collaboration:

No artist can truly do it alone, and we certainly wouldn’t want to. Our artistic work is consistently made better by our collaborators. We want to find and work with fellow artists who have different outlooks and experiences from our own so that our work can be as rich and full as possible with ever-growing space for new perspectives. Our goal is that every member of our process feels welcome in the spaces we build and encouraged to share their ideas.

Accessibility:

We commit to choosing projects, events, and spaces that are available and accessible to as many people as possible. We are aware that we do not and cannot know everything. When we make mistakes, we commit to acknowledging them and learning from them. We are excited to learn, grow, and improve with every project we work on.

Humanity:

As artists ourselves, we are dedicated to being a people-first theatre company. We want to be part of redefining the industry standard of artists becoming products. All of our art is informed by our humanity. Our collaborators and our audiences are of the utmost importance to us, not because of what they can produce or consume, but because of what they - as people - bring to the table.

We are dedicated to the wellbeing of the people with whom we work. We strive to support those who work with us in a way that makes them feel safe and encouraged to take risks, explore the uncomfortable, and perhaps most importantly, be honest about their needs and boundaries. First and foremost, we prioritize their humanity and personhood. We prioritize process over product, and people over process.
